200hr MUKTI TEACHER TRAINING

200hr Mukti Teacher Training & Electives Retreat July 27-Aug 17, 2013

OVERVIEW

Mukti Yoga School is a Yoga Alliance approved, 200/500 hour registered yoga school. Mukti Yoga strongly emphasizes safety and anatomy as essential to the yoga practice. While each training is grounded in this technical understanding of asana, Mukti Yoga aims to go beyond the physical, offering teachers the opportunity to explore the rich depth of all yoga has to offer.

Join us in the beauty of Bali to deepen your personal yoga practice and understanding of yoga through a teacher training, elective or retreat experience with Mukti Yoga School.  Students receiving their 200 hour certification will take the Foundation module (100 hours, led by Christy Evans) followed by the two electives. Simultaneously, students pursuing their 300/500 hour certification will complete the Graduate module (100 hours, led by Julie Rader) followed by the two electives. The two electives, Chakra Vinyasa and Tantra/Kriya, are 50 hours each and will be co-led by Julie and Christy. Electives are open to anyone interested in the topic, regardless of whether the practitioner is pursuing a teacher training certification.

Foundation Module – 100 hours

The Foundation Module is the basis of a teacher training. The objective of this course is to learn how to teach Hatha yoga to all levels, including anatomy and alignment of over 60 asanas. Students learn how to sequence a class, provide modifications and adjust students in poses.  Students will receive an all encompassing and ever lasting teacher training experience.

Julie Rader developed this training from her studies with Swami Satyananda as well as over a decade of personal practice. This background in ancient yogic traditions and focus on modern application and safe physical practice sets the Mukti Yoga School apart. In this Foundation Module you will learn:

  • Introduction and exposure to classic yogic texts
  • Dinacharya (daily Ayurvedic ritual)
  • History and philosophy of yoga
  • In depth study of primary and intermediate asanas
  • Develop skills in hands-on adjustments
  • Basic Sanskrit pronunciation and etymology
  • Templates for creating/sequencing individual and group classes
  • Team-teaching community yoga classes
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of several types of namaskars
  • Anaytomy of the body mandala
  • Karma yoga
  • The Business of Yoga
  • Pranayama (breathing practices)
  • Basic Meditation practices
  • The arc of well-balanced class
  • Developing a personal practice
Graduate Module – 100 hours (for anyone with a Yoga Alliance approved 200 hour certification to use toward a 500 hour Mukti Yoga certification)

The Graduate Module is a deep evaluation of the history and philosophy of yoga beyond what is taught in a basic teacher training. While a basic training focuses on safety and physical instruction, the Graduate Module explores ancient texts, chakras, mudras, bandhas, philosophy, mythology and strategies for living a yogic lifestyle.  Students will also receive further instruction on creative and intelligent sequencing, asana based anatomy and physiology, supportive and purposeful adjustments as well as detailed business of yoga discussions. The Graduate students will explore advanced asanas and incorporate these postures into the teaching practicums and/or community classes.

Chakra Vinyasa Elective – 50 hours

The objective of this elective is to explore how the dynamic movement of Vinyasa flow can restore the vibration and health of the Chakras.  This course will deliver an in-depth understanding of each Chakra, knowledge of how Vinyasa flow can enhance the awakening and balancing of individual Chakras, as well as and the foundation for structuring a Chakra based vinyasa class.  For those not participating in teacher training certification, this elective may be taken as a retreat.  Retreat participants may join in as much of the training as personally desired.

Tantric/Kriya Elective – 50 hours

In this elective you will become totally immersed in the power of the ancient Kriyas.  Amplified and enhanced by the energy of Bali, this course will incorporate daily meditation, pranayama and inner silence.  Students will learn how to teach yoga nidra, a zen practice, inner silence and ajapa japa meditation.  This unique experience is suitable for all students looking to explore a yoga and meditation practice more deeply.  For those not participating in teacher training certification, this elective may be taken as a retreat.  Retreat participants may join in as much of the training as personally desired.

**Students taking the entire 200hr Teacher Training must attend all classes and elective options.  Students can apply the 200hr Teacher Training toward a 200 hour or 300/500 hour Mukti Yoga Certification.  The Chakra and Tantric/Kriya electives are open to single or double week bookings on an elective/retreat basis.**

TEACHERS

Julie Rader

Julie first discovered meditation as a teenager as a tool to enhance her gymnastics performances. She continued to study the power of the mind body connection through college and graduate school. The intellectual learning transferred to experiential learning by using mental imagery and yoga to earn her All-American recognition as a springboard diver. Julie uses yoga, visualization and yoga nidra to help professional athletes reach their highest potential. She works with professional volleyball players, soccer players, basketball players, and snowboarders.

After four years of yoga studio management, Julie decided to turn her focus back to teaching. Julie founded the Mukti Yoga Teacher Training School in 2004 and created unique 50-hour, 100-hour, and 150-hour modules. The modules allow trainees to customize the teacher training experience based on the path they would like their teaching career to take. Mukti Yoga senior teachers lead the foundation modules and Julie leads the graduate module as well as most of the 50-hour modules.  Mukti Yoga encourages students to have their feet rooted on the ground and their head dreaming in the clouds.

Christy Evans

Christy Evans has spent a decade consciously exploring and sharing the path of Yoga with teachers such as Julie Rader, Sianna Sherman, Noah Mazé and Christopher (Hareesh) Wallis. For Christy, this path has revealed many truths and much awareness. It is from this place of understanding that she encourages others to explore their true selves through breath, intention and asana. Through teaching yoga, Christy aims to share a tradition that reveals just how deeply we are all connected and, ultimately, that what we do truly matters.

Christy’s 1,000 hours of training in Yoga, Tantra, Qigong and Reiki, as well as her masters degree in speech language pathology, all contribute to her approach of mind-body-energy connection. It is Christy’s genuine belief in this universal connection within each individual that makes her instruction unique. Her teachings incorporate energetic themes from ancient traditions of nondual Tantra to daily life inspirations (quotes, seasons, nature’s elements and moon cycles). She offers intelligently sequenced classes that allow students to access peak poses and advanced asanas, while simultaneously, heightening the sense of intuition and connection with Oneness.

Christy’s yoga endeavor, Live.Love.Lila* is based in northern California. She teaches publicly, leads retreats across the globe and trains new teachers through Mukti Yoga School. (*Lila (“lee-lah”) is a Sanskrit word meaning “divine play”)

FAQ

How much experience do I need to take the Foundation Module?
Any person motivated for a deeper understanding of poses, alignment, and history of Yoga is welcome to take the Foundation training. It is recommended that the student has taken at least 30 yoga classes before taking the Foundation module, however no prior experience is required.

How do I receive my 300/500 hour certification with Mukti Yoga School?
Once you've completed your 200 hour yoga alliance approved teacher training you can begin your 300/500 hour certification. This 200 hour teacher training experience can be applied toward your 300/500 hour yoga alliance approved Mukti Yoga certification. The final 100 hours will require completion of the 100 hour Graduate Module or two, 50 hour electives with Mukti Yoga School.

Will I be qualified to teach yoga once I complete the 200-Hour Teacher Training Program?
Absolutely!  Upon completing all requirements of the Teacher Training you will receive your certificate for training at the 200hr level. You may then register with Yoga Alliance at the RYT-200 level (Registered Yoga Teacher 200). Graduates at the 200-hour program can begin teaching in studios, gyms and with private clientele.

Additional Mukti Yoga School training is available to continue your Teacher Training education.  Participation in the 300 or 500 hour program is available to further your skills, knowledge and style as a yoga instructor.

Is a written test required for certification?
During the training oral and written evaluations will be given on the material presented.  These evaluations are designed to determine where you may need additional study or support.  However, certification is not contingent upon these evaluations.  The practice/teach sessions are truly the determining factor for course completion.  The successful and safe delivery of a Mukti Yoga class to your fellow students is a requirement for graduation.

How much time will I need to study outside of class?
Study time will be provided each day to cover the reading that will be assigned to support the training.  Students should use time outside of the training to prepare for the practice/teach sessions and to enjoy the beauty of Bali!

Do I need a visa to visit Bali?
Yes, depending on your nationality.  U.S. passport holders will need to show a passport valid for six months after the arrival date in Bali, a return ticket and $25USD (in exact change) for a 30 day visa.  Visa regulations have been in flux in Bali for almost a decade so it is recommended that you check with your consulate for the most up to date information.

What airport do I fly into?
Make all travel arrangements into Denpasar (DPS).  Please be aware that you will need to depart the US one to two days before the start of the retreat, depending on the flight schedule you chose.

How do I get from Denpasar to the training?
Transfers are included via private transport. If you have any questions regarding your arrival time and transportation availability, please contact The Travel Yogi before booking. Occasionally flights arrive into Denpasar in the early morning hours (1-5am) which can make timely transfers difficult.

What is the electrical currency/outlet in Bali?
Bali utilizes the standard British plug (two flat blades and one flat grounding blade) and the European plug (two round pins) and is at 230V.  Adapters  will be necessary if you are taking any electrical items.

Do I need any inoculations?
Generally speaking, traveling to foreign countries exposes you to new germs and diseases.  All inoculations or malaria tablet inquiries need to be directed to your physician for an accurate assessment of your individual need or preference.

Is there internet access on property?
While we hope you'll try and unplug... yes, there is wi-fi on property.

What will the weather be like?
Because of it's equatorial location, Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the 'wet' season occurring between October and April and the 'dry' season between May and September.  It is generally always hot with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80s and up.

Will I need to 'dress' for dinner?
The dress code is completely up to you.  It is very warm well into the evenings so dress for comfort over fashion.  There is no 'dress code' in this relaxed and kicked-back atmosphere.

How do I book an optional excursion?
All excursions can be booked at the retreat at any time during your stay.  If there is something that you know you absolutely MUST experience while in Bali, it's best to book early in the week to avoid disappointment.
