OVERVIEW

Rejuvenate in paradise.  Not just a yoga paradise; paradise.period.  The small, magical island is known as a yoga retreat mecca for many reasons, and Soulshine Bali just added another.  This magical center is dedicated to bringing people together to practice yoga, meditation, to feel music and to dance it all away.

Located just outside of Ubud, Soulshine follows local customs, architecture and harmony.  The exquisitely designed main building, the Terrace Villa building, the Lotus Villa building and grounds hosts a river, tropical gardens and several ornate ponds.  Covered by a traditional balinese roof, the open air yoga studio on the third floor overlooks some of the most spectacular rice terraces, temples and greenest jungle in the world.

Jump into the local artisan scene in Ubud, journey to the beach and explore temples, mountain tops and Balinese culture.  Welcome to beauty. Welcome to enrichment. Welcome to Bali.

ITINERARY

Teachers will set their yoga schedule, generally mornings and evenings. Schedules, based on teachers, will go out with final retreat information to participating yogis.

The days are yours to enjoy the island, swim, enjoy your massage or to book one of the optional excursions as listed below.  Excursions and spa services can be arranged by the retreat at no additional charge. Yoga is always optional and at your discretion.

Optional Excursions: (additional excursions available via the concierge upon arrival)

Traditional Balinese Cooking Class:

Learn how to use some of the over 1000 spices used in Balinese cuisine to create an authentic and delicious meal.  This cooking class includes a trip to the local market where you will learn about the ingredients that go into each dish.  Back at the retreat you will have hands on experience with the chef on cooking such local favorites as Soto Ayam (traditional chicken soup), Rendang Sapi (braised beef in coconut milk) and Dadar Gulung (Balinese pancake filled with coconut and palm sugar).

This half day experience begins at 6am (early risers get the best produce at the traditional local market!) and ends at 1pm.  Booking required at least one day in advance.

$65USD per person

Ubud Tour and Kecak Dinner:

This combination trip begins in Ubud and includes Monkey Forest, the Royal Palace and the traditional local market.  The tour also makes stops in Mas, Batuan and Celuk villages to see local artisans working on traditional Balinese wood carvings, art and jewelery.  In Batubulan experience the impressive traditional Bali Kecak and fire dance inspired by the epic of Ramayana.  Learn about the history and culture of the island from the locals and end the tour with dinner in Sanur or Ubud.

This trip begins at 3pm and lasts approximately 5 hours.  The trip cost excludes entrance fees.

$50USD per person

Kintamani Tour:

This cultural and sightseeing full day tour visits the artisan centers of Mas and Celuk as well as religious sites and volcanic viewpoints.

The tour begins at 9am and it is straight off to Batu Bulan to experience the local Barong dance.  Trips into the Ubud local Mas village and Celuk artist centers afford a chance to watch local craftsmen at work.  Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, was an 11th century cave used by monks and was named for the statue of Ganesh found inside.  A few minutes drive from Goa Gajah is Tampak Siring, a holy spring temple known as Pura Tirta Empul.  An hour drive through the terraced fields and mountains brings the tour to Kintamani and spectacular views of Mount Abang, Mount Agung and Batur Lake.

The tour lasts approximately 8 hours and excludes entrance fees.

$70USD per person

Bedugul Mountain Tour:

Visit Taman Ayun Temple and Monkey Forest where you can spot bats sleeping in the trees and feed the monkeys.  Experience the local handiwork, fresh fruits, botanical garden and sights of Pacung, Bedugul and Lake Bratan.  A highlight of this trip is a visit to Ulun Danu Temple, one of the most picturesque and most photographed temples in Bali.  The temple was built in 1633 by the King of Mengwi and dedicated to the lake goddess Dewi Danu.

This trip begins at 9am and lasts approximately 8 hours and excludes entrance fees.

$70USD per person

Balinese Wood Carving Class:

Wood carvings are omnipresent in Bali and tourist options run the gamut from traditionally carved to mass produced.  Take home your own wood carved masterpiece and some basic carving skills from a class taught by a local artisan.  Whether working in wood, stone, bone, horn or gnarled tree roots, these craftsmen can create art out of anything.  Sit with an expert at the beginning of your week and whittle away at your craft until you leave.

$15USD per person

FAQ

Do I need a visa to visit Bali?
Yes, depending on your nationality.  U.S. passport holders will need to show a passport valid for six months after the arrival date in Bali, a return ticket and $25USD (in exact change) for a 30 day visa.  Visa regulations have been in flux in Bali for almost a decade so it is recommended that you check with your consulate for the most up to date information.

What airport do I fly into?
Make all travel arrangements into Denpasar (DPS).  Please be aware that you will need to depart the US one to two days before the start of the retreat, depending on the flight schedule you chose.

How do I get from Denpasar to the retreat?
Transfers are included via private transport. If you have any questions regarding your arrival time and transportation availability, please contact The Travel Yogi before booking. Occasionally flights arrive into Denpasar in the early morning hours (1-5am) which can make timely transfers difficult.

What is the electrical currency/outlet in Bali?
Bali utilizes the standard British plug (two flat blades and one flat grounding blade) and the European plug (two round pins) and is at 230V.  Adapters  will be necessary if you are taking any electrical items.

Do I need any inoculations?
Generally speaking, traveling to foreign countries exposes you to new germs and diseases.  All inoculations or malaria tablet inquiries need to be directed to your physician for an accurate assessment of your individual need or preference.

Is there internet access on property?
While we hope you'll try and unplug... yes, there is wi-fi on property.

What will the weather be like?
Because of it's equatorial location, Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the 'wet' season occurring between October and April and the 'dry' season between May and September.  It is generally always hot with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80s and up.

Will I need to 'dress' for dinner?
The dress code is completely up to you.  It is very warm well into the evenings so dress for comfort over fashion.  There is no 'dress code' in this relaxed and kicked-back atmosphere.

How do I book an optional excursion?
All excursions can be booked at the retreat at any time during your stay.  If there is something that you know you absolutely MUST experience while in Bali, it's best to book early in the week to avoid disappointment.
