THE TRAVEL YOGI

Yoga Teacher Application

Working with The Travel Yogi

Interested in leading a trip with The Travel Yogi? Here's what our partnership looks like, so you can decide if it's the right fit before you apply.

We’re ‘Adventure Wellness‘ and not ‘Yoga Retreat

Our focus is on a destination’s culture, nature and amazingness with yoga woven in as a daily grounding practice. You should prepare to teach 1-2 vinyasa-style classes per day, about an hour each, with a focus on winding up, or down, from the day’s planned adventures.  Think: a morning of vigorous vinyasa to get ready for a day of snorkeling, biking or hiking and an evening, more relaxed class to stretch out those snorkeled, biked or hiked (as an example) muscles.

A typical day might start with yoga and breakfast, then move into herding goats in Italy, hiking to a glacier lake in Patagonia, blending wine in France, or sitting in on evening chants with monks in Bhutan.

Who Joins Our Adventures

Some travelers come from a teacher’s community, others find us through their own search, word of mouth or are repeat travelers with us.  We work with teachers and studios in two ways:

  • Public trips: Listed on our website, newsletters, and social channels
  • Private trips: Exclusive to a teacher’s or studio’s own community and marketed only to them.  These adventures are branded in exclusive partnership with the teacher or studio

What We Handle So You Don’t Have To

We’ve been running yoga adventures since 2010 and we’re experts at what we do. When you lead a trip with us, we handle:

  • All finances and payments with travelers and all local vendors/locations
  • Pre-, during and post-trip traveler communications
    • This includes information on flights, packing, transfers, general travel questions, etc.  We’re always here
    • Our travelers will also have access right after booking to our personalized travel app for your adventure. This includes immediate access to beautiful trip visuals, day-to-day itinerary, essential pre-trip information and a ton of additional resources (both helpful and the just-for-fun kind).  Everything travelers need to feel supported and excited from day one
  • Coordinating all on-the-ground logistics from hotels to transport to charter flights
  • Vetted boutique accommodations (not yoga retreat centers) and trip adventures
  • A local guide with your group for the full trip. Travelers get an authentic point-of-view from a local perspective and teachers get to focus on what matters: teaching and adventuring
  • Traveler questions that take time (refunds, visa requirements, “does the hotel have …?”)—those come to us, not you

This leaves you free to focus on what you do best: yoga and community building. Our guide will take care of the ‘herding cats’ aspect, you get to roll up your mat and enjoy the ride.

This also means you can offer a brand-new destination every year (or multiple each year) with the same level of care and quality. We’ve done the research and built the local relationships long before the trip is announced. The quality is solidly consistent for your yogis no matter which trip on our map you choose to lead and, once your students have adventured with us, they know the level of quality and professionalism to expect so repeat travelers know they can trust the adventure on offer.

When Running Your Own Show Might Be a Better Fit

If your priority is a yoga-heavy experience (longer classes, philosophy discussions, dedicated workshops, etc), a traditional retreat center may serve you better. Retreat centers typically focus on accommodations and food, require an upfront per-person or percentage deposit and leave the daily itinerary in your hands (teaching plus downtime). If activities and excursions are offered, they’re usually separate and at an additional cost. It’s a different model, and a genuinely good one, for a yoga retreat goal.

Many of our teachers do both. They partner with us for international adventure trips, and separately host their own domestic retreat-style offerings. We don’t require exclusivity as the two formats attract different students and serve different purposes.

Is This the Right Fit?

If you’re drawn to helping travelers explore a place deeply, want a trusted, professional team handling logistics and finances so you can lead with confidence and are open to yoga playing a supporting rather than a starring role, this is likely a great fit. Adventure travel is an immersive, hands-on and engaging way to get under the skin of beautiful destinations and culture. Obviously, we’re fans.
