THE TRAVEL YOGI
Mexico Yoga Adventure
Trip in One Word: Natural
What You’ll Experience in Baja
This yoga retreat in Mexico will bring you into harmony with the stunning biodiversity of the Sea of Cortés, the hum of artsy Todos Santos and, when in season, on a boat to meet the naturally inquisitive grey whales that call Baja home in the winter. Hike the dramatic desert landscapes and then escape underwater to marvel in what is commonly referred to as ‘Mexico’s Aquarium of the World’. Boasting 39% of the world’s marine mammal species, the question is less ‘if’ you’ll have a wildlife encounter and more ‘who’ will come over to say hello! Throw in daily wellness and you have your perfect Mexico yoga retreat. You’ll explore the region’s cultural, swim with sea lions, picnic on a secluded beach, help ‘reforest’ coral reefs, surf, glamp on a beautiful island and seal each amazing day with yoga. This is the trip for adventurers who want to see authentic Mexico through fresh (read: non-touristy) eyes.
How You’ll Experience Baja
You’ll fly in and out of Cabo and transfer immediately out into nature—you’ll stay a short drive from the hum of Todos Santos and, depending on the season, glamp on the pristine Espíritu Santo Island or just off the whale watching mecca of Magdalena Bay. Regardless of the itinerary (season dependent), you’ll start your adventure in nature and overlooking the beautifully hypnotic Pacific. You’ll hike the desert trails, spy for Blue-footed Boobies, swim with rambunctious sea lions, surf, snorkel, kayak and stroll lovely Todos Santos. As the days float by, you’ll balance adventure with beach time and salty breezes amongst new friends (footed and finned) and seal each day ceremonially with a yoga session.
How You’ll Feel When You Return Home
You’ll return home from this yoga retreat in Mexico saturated with a chillness that you can’t shake after you’ve long shaken the sand from your clothes. Closeness to nature, especially wonderfully curious animals like sea lions and grey whales, make an indelible mark on the soul and remind us of the vast and beautiful ecosystem with which we are all connected. Above all else, this yoga adventure in Mexico will inspire your insatiable curiosity—and your love of authentic street tacos.

Leslie Sikes
Leslie Sikes is a Cincinnati yoga instructor with over 20 years of teaching in studio, institutional, and private settings. She has participated as a student on a trip with The Travel Yogi the Galapagos Islands, and has led trips with The Travel Yogi to Panama, Kenya and soon to be Iceland and Patagonia. These experiences have truly changed her life in many ways.
Leslie teaches yoga studies for The University of Cincinnati. This curriculum allows college students to access yoga and meditation through their college career. She was the driving force behind the creation of a yoga studies certificate at the university. She also teaches yoga for the athletics teams at UC.
Leslie’s yoga training consists of 200 YTT in Ashtanga Yoga, 300 YTT in Rocket Yoga and certifications in Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga and Mindfulness. She recently completed her 500 YTT at Modo Yoga Nicaragua and currently teaches hot yoga and workshops for Embra Yoga Cincinnati.
When it comes to teaching, Leslie’s goal is to help students use yoga to stay connected both spiritually and physically, on and off their mats. She loves music and is constantly creating new music playlists to match her teachings, which she subsequently shares with her students. Leslie currently lives in Clifton with her husband and two girls, Lila and Rose.
Leslie’s Travel Yogi Story
I found The Travel Yogi through the Yoga Journal as a sweepstakes to win a free yoga retreat adventure to Iceland. While I didn’t win, I reached out to the company to see what they were all about. I’m a 44 year old yoga instructor who lives in Cincinnati with my husband and two kids, ages 16 and 13. The Galapagos Island trip had been on my bucket list since I was a little girl. I knew this was the right time in my life to travel again. I decided I should travel as a student first to see the experience from that side. I was completely blown away by my experience! The food, culture, hospitality, yoga practice, local guides of the island, and time to detach from everything at home was crucial for my mental health. I returned home recharged with a fresh outlook on life, and couldn’t wait for the next trip. I made a new group of friends as The Travel Yogi trips seem to attract open-minded, non-judgemental, diverse and friendly people. This is what inspired me to lead yoga retreat adventures with The Travel Yogi to Panama and Kenya in 2024.
In Panama we had 14 amazing women who joined for yoga and adventure in Panama City and Bocas del Toro. The weather was beautiful, and we all came home feeling like we actually had time to rest and take care of ourselves. We all had a blast making connections with each other and the amazing souls in Panama. This was the perfect adventure in February when the weather was cold in the US.
Kenya was a dream come true. Going to Africa was also something that I hoped to experience. Little did I know the change it would make in my life. The animals, guides, accommodations and people of Kenya were some of the most incredible experiences I have ever witnessed. Kenya is a healing place in so many ways. I will forever hold this in my heart.
Iceland and Patagonia are on the horizon. I hope you can join me for these experiences and more around the world.

TESTIMONIALS
I enjoyed the relaxation, yoga, and meeting new people."
The 2nd cenote which was about 30-40 minutes away with the cliff jumping was amazing. Our guides and drivers were amazing. They really went out of their way to be customer service oriented."
The food was really awesome! I was a little hesitant about the vegetarian fare and no alcohol policy. I honestly didn’t miss it (meat/alcohol) much and there were plenty of bars within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and I enjoyed them. Marcela and Andres were really personable and accommodating."
The group was truly amazing. Everyone was so nice, relaxed, friendly…just glad to be there! The location, resort…staff…amazing. I loved every second!"

Speaking from experience, we always strongly recommend travel insurance. This yoga adventure is a big investment of time, energy, imagination and funds and travel insurance is your safe guard in the event that an unforeseen situation arises. You will also want to know that you are covered medically if a whale bites off a finger (kidding!!).
At this time, no vaccinations are required for travel to Mexico. However, we recommend that you are up to date on all routine vaccinations and encourage you to review the latest guidance on the CDC page for Mexico before traveling, as recommendations can change. Baja California Sur enjoys a warm, sunny desert-meets-ocean climate. Daytime temperatures typically range from 70–85°F (21–29°C) with plenty of sunshine and cooling ocean breezes. Light, breathable clothing with a light layer for cooler mornings and evenings, and warmer layers when out on the water.
Naturally! Of course we’ll be hitting the beach, but there is also a lovely pool at the ready. And pack a suit or two as we’ve got kayaking, SUP-ing and beach days planned for you all.
Wildlife sightings are always a highlight, but nature is wonderfully unpredictable—so while we hope you see plenty, Mother Nature ultimately calls the shots. In Baja, the waters of the Sea of Cortez are incredibly rich in marine life. On departures to Magdalena Bay, you may have the unforgettable experience of seeing gray whales up close, often with curious calves. On departures to Espíritu Santo Island, keep an eye out for playful sea lions, colorful fish, rays, seabirds like blue-footed boobies, and sometimes even dolphins or mobula rays. 🙂
In Mexico, it’s best to stick with filtered or bottled water for drinking. Both of our accommodations will provide plenty of fresh and filtered drinking water. You will want to bring a reusable water bottle with you for daily use and while out on walks, drives and out on the water.
