ICELAND

The raw beauty of Iceland nature will awe and amaze and the quirky Iceland culture will charm you (like it charmed us!).  We’ve got your Iceland adventures in the bag regardless of whether you choose to experience the beautiful midnight sun or majestic northern lights.   The volcanic power that continues to form this island is palatable in the hum of Reykjavik and in the echoes of ageless glaciers and exploding geysers.  In all its seasons and facets, an Iceland yoga retreat is an extraordinary adventure.

We are excited to share with you the highlights of what makes this island tick both from the vibrant capital of Reykjavik and from our hidden accommodation gem in the south.  We’ll explore waterfalls and geysers, case the city, rest in the south surrounded by Icelandic horses, check out some out-of-this-world terrain and chillax in the Blue Lagoon.

This adventure is for the adventurous… bring your open mind and heart and The Travel Yogi will take care of the rest…

Accommodations

Reykjavik Room Options

Executive rooms offer comfort with Scandinavian luxury. Clean, crisp rooms with large bathrooms lull each yogi to sleep.  Bask in the thoughtful extras of heated towel racks (a welcome luxury), long tubs and deep, comfortable beds.

Atrium rooms offer many of the same comforts of the Superior Executive room with a few slight differences.  Atrium rooms will look in towards the spacious and natural-light filled lobby area and will be slightly smaller than their Executive cousins.   All of these rooms can accommodate two beds for roommates and are a wonderfully comfortable alternative to the Executive rooms.

South Iceland Rooms

Our rooms in the south are all clean and neat country-comfort with en suite bathrooms.  They are smaller and more basic than the city hotel rooms but with unrivaled views. Gaze out onto the surrounding fields dotted with the property’s host of Icelandic horses or towards the museum building beautifully constructed, in part, with volcanic rock.  Rooms will be configured with either two twin beds or one king based on your initial room request.

FAQs

You will be traveling Keflavik (KEF) airport.  The airport is about an hour outside of Reykjavik and our transfers will pick you up, regardless of flight arrival time, and whisk you into town.

US citizens will need a valid passport to visit Iceland, but no visa is required at this time. Passports will need to be valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry and will need at least two blank pages.  Iceland reserves the right to refuse entry if passports expire before the 3 month mark after arrival.  As entry requirements can change, please visit the State Department’s website for up to date information.

Nationals of all other countries should check travel requirements well in advance of their retreat.

Iceland is a land of contrast… oceans and mountains, volcanoes and glaciers and cool winds and warm people.  Expect to learn a lot about the geology of the ever shifting island and expect ‘ooh’ and ‘aaaah’ pictures of waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, volcanoes, beautiful Reykjavik and the famous Icelandic horse (just don’t call them ‘ponies’…ha).

Mother Nature is a wonderful but irresolute hostess.  While we watch the signs and our guides are expert spotters, there is no guarantee.  We’ll have two nights dedicated to looking for the lights far away from ambient light and a whole week to keep our eyes peeled.

Iceland utilizes the same plug and currency as Europe (220V).  If you are using North American plugs, an adapter and converter will be necessary.  Some plugs will not accept the third ‘grounding’ pin so a back-up adapter is recommended.

Yes!  Wifi is readily available on property and can be accessed in most easily in the communal areas.

We’ll supply the yoga mat goodness. Our locations are not yoga retreat centers, so if needed, please do remember to pack a block or strap.

You will need a good sturdy pair of walking shoes as well as layers for the excursion days.  Other than that, bring your yoga clothes, casual wear, a swim suit and plenty of charge on your camera!

All trips are a big investment of time, energy, imagination and funds.  We highly recommend that you buy travel insurance in the event that an unforeseen situation arises.  You will also want to know that you are covered medically in case a puffin bites off a finger (kidding!!).
