If you’re a part of The Travel Yogi community, you may have noticed something unusual this year. We got a little carried away.
In a typical year, adding one new pin to our adventure map feels like a major accomplishment. New destinations take time. There are scouting trips, local partnerships, logistics, testing, tweaking, more testing, and the occasional “well, that definitely sounded better on paper” moment.
This year, however, the stars aligned.
What started as a few scouting opportunities turned into a whirlwind year of exploration, creativity, and some very exciting discoveries. Before we knew it, we’d launched four entirely new destinations and five brand-new itineraries — the biggest expansion of our adventure map in recent memory.
If you’ve missed any of the announcements along the way, here’s a look at the newest additions and what made us so excited to bring them to you.
Mexico: Where One Adventure Became Two
Sometimes a destination refuses to fit neatly into a single itinerary.
That was Baja.
As we explored the region, it quickly became clear that trying to capture everything in one trip would mean missing what makes each experience special. Instead, we decided to create two entirely different adventures that share the same stunning corner of Mexico.
One itinerary follows the annual migration of gray whales to Magdalena Bay, where these gentle giants arrive each winter to breed and raise their calves. Days are spent out on the water observing whale behavior, kayaking through protected estuaries, spotting dolphins and birdlife, and glamping along the shores of the bay.
The second adventure heads into the Sea of Cortés for an overnight camping experience on Espíritu Santo Island. Travelers spend their days snorkeling among vibrant marine life, searching for sea lions, kayaking crystal-clear waters, and experiencing one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in North America.
Both itineraries begin in the laid-back surf and arts community of Todos Santos, but from there they diverge into entirely different adventures depending on the time of year. The result is two distinct Baja adventures, each showcasing a completely different side of this remarkable region.
Guatemala: The Underrated and Astonishing Destination We Can’t Stop Talking About
Every now and then we visit a place and immediately wonder why more people aren’t talking about it. Guatemala is one of those places.
For a country that often flies under the radar, Guatemala delivers. In a single journey, you can wander colorful colonial streets, meet artisans carrying on generations-old traditions, explore vibrant local markets, visit ancient Mayan sites, and find yourself surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.
What stood out most during our scouting process was how deeply connected daily life remains to culture, history, and community. The itinerary reflects that.
Travelers spend time exploring Antigua’s historic center and markets, riding local chicken buses, visiting a women-owned weaving cooperative, participating in a traditional offering ceremony led by a local shaman, and learning from community-led projects in northern Guatemala.
The adventure then moves into the Maya Biosphere Reserve, including visits to Uaxactún and the extraordinary archaeological site of Tikal. The result is an experience that feels endlessly rich, surprising, and memorable.
New Zealand: A Country That Turns Everyday Activities Into Adventures
There are beautiful destinations. Then there’s New Zealand, where even a drive to lunch somehow feels like a nature documentary.
The journey begins with a visit to a working South Island farm, where travelers get an authentic glimpse into Kiwi life. Later, participants suit up as beekeepers for the day, learning firsthand about hive life and the production of New Zealand’s famous Manuka honey.
From there, the adventure unfolds through vineyard landscapes, Dark Sky Park stargazing, scenic hiking trails, packrafting in the Rees Valley, and a breathtaking flight and cruise experience through Milford Sound.
Some destinations are best experienced by checking famous landmarks off a list. New Zealand is not one of them.
The magic here comes from immersing yourself in the landscape and participating in everyday experiences that somehow feel extraordinary.
Morocco: A Feast for Curious Travelers
Morocco has a way of engaging all of your senses at once. Aromas drift from market stalls, colors spill from textiles and architecture, and the sounds of daily life echo through ancient medinas.
As we explored the country, we found ourselves continually surprised by how much variety could fit into a single itinerary.
One day begins with a sunrise hot air balloon flight above the landscape surrounding Marrakesh. Another includes learning the art of Arabic calligraphy. Travelers explore the city by vintage sidecar, share meals with Amazigh hosts in the High Atlas Mountains, hike village trails beneath the peaks of North Africa’s highest mountain range, and finish their journey beneath the star-filled skies of the Agafay Desert.
It’s a destination layered with history, culture, hospitality, and natural beauty. And perhaps most importantly, it’s a place that rewards curiosity at every turn.
Why So Many New Destinations?
Our team spent a significant portion of the past year scouting, researching, asking questions, building relationships, and occasionally testing whether a schedule could somehow fit one more flight.
As local partnerships developed and ideas evolved, destinations we’d been dreaming about for years suddenly felt possible. New experiences emerged, and new routes came together. Rather than putting those ideas on a shelf, we decided to lean into the momentum.
The result is four new destinations, five new itineraries, countless scouting miles, and more than a few moments where we looked at the calendar and wondered if we’d finally lost our minds. Thankfully, we didn’t.
